Save Guo Feixiong: Hunger Strike Relay Proposal

May 2, 2016

A group of well-known activists in China have initiated a 24-hour relay hunger strike campaign, beginning on May 4, to urge the Chinese authorities to take immediate action to provide Guo Feixiong with immediate medical treatment. The initial seven hunger strikers include Tan Zuoren, the environmental activist who served five years in prison for documenting the casualties of the Sichuan earthquake, and rights defense lawyer Sui Muqing. The initiators urge all volunteers to send out a short public statement before their strike and to share their thoughts in writing after they finish their strike.

In late April, the sister of Guo, the prominent rights defender serving a six-year prison sentence in Yangchun Prison, Guangdong, on two trumped up charges for his support for the strike by Southern Weekly’s editorial staff against political interference, circulated information about Guo’s alarming health deterioration.
