Chinese pollution protesters harassed - rights official

Human Rights in China said five petitioners, representing some 500 people from Yangguidian village in Hubei Province are under police surveillance after they tried to deliver documents about the pollution to officials in Beijing. The research director of Human Rights in China, Nicholas Becquelin, told Betsy-Mae Velou that villagers were suffering high rates of kidney disease and skin allergies because of the polluted Maoping River and paper factories there.
