An Open Letter Regarding the Suspected Wrongdoing of Wanning Public Security Bureau in the Case of “Principal and Government Officials ‘Renting Rooms’ [at hotels] with Primary School Students”
On May 8, 2013, a grotesque criminal case involving a primary school principal who brought six female primary students to “rent rooms” [at hotels] unfolded in Wanning City, Hainan Province. In its announcement of the circumstances of the case the Wanning City Public Security Bureau claimed that “the victims’ hymens were not ruptured,” and “they were not raped.” Guangzhou New Media Women’s Network published an open letter calling into question Wanning City Public Security Bureau’s ability to handle the case, and the professional conduct of its officials. The Network believes the Wanning Public Security Bureau is guilty of malfeasance and calls for its accountability in the case.
