“We Protest: On What Basis Do You Deprive Us of the Right to Mourn the Victims of June Fourth at Muxidi”

In this letter from Ding Zilin and her husband Jiang Peikun, both of the Tiananmen Mothers group, they state that authorities have cut off their Internet connection, landline, and mobile service.

According to the letter, on June 2, Domestic Security personnel denied the couple’s request to go to Muxidi on June 3 to pay respects to their son who was killed on the night of June 3, 1989.

In the letter, Ding and Jiang also expressed their deep concern about the deterioration of human rights in China: “Since Xi Jinping took office, universal human rights in China have not improved in the slightest; instead, they have taken a great step backward. … We welcome the U.S. State Department’s statement [regarding June Fourth]. A Chinese government spokesperson criticized the United States for its political ‘prejudice,’ and ‘interfering with Chinese domestic politics.’ This clearly shows that the Chinese government has cut itself off from the civilized humankind of the world.”
