In their statement, the six lawyers explained that the termination of their representation of their clients was based on the defendants’ belief that the court’s behavior so far indicates that it would not be possible for the lawyers to conduct a proper defense. The lawyers stated two specific problems: 1) the court has not provided a legal basis for not concluding the trial within the three-month limit after accepting the case, thus keeping their clients in detention beyond the limit allowed by law; and 2) the court summarily rejected the lawyers’ request for the recusal of the three judges on the case without following the proper procedure of obtaining a decision by the chief justice of the court.
